Learn More About Our tests

With a focus on consumer safety, EVIO Labs provides ISO-17025 accredited testing for hemp and cbd products. Our tests range from consumer information (potency, terpenes) to harmful contaminants (microbials, pesticides, metals). Whatever your product is, from raw plant material to extractions to infusions (including edibles and topicals), and unique products such as transdermal patches, suppositories and capsules, you can be sure our methods are tried and true to bring you the most accurate results.

Cannabinoid Profile

EVIO Labs is the nation’s most trusted provider for cannabis potency testing – leading the industry in methodologies and exceeding mandated standards in applicable states. We use Ultra-High Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC) that goes beyond testing the level of THC and provides detailed profiling of all major cannabinoids.  Some of our labs also profile minor cannabinoids. All EVIO Labs locations ensure that the test results are accurate with regular third party proficiency tests, and frequent inter-lab testing.

Genomics Pathogen Testing

The next time your grow has you puzzled, consider EVIO Labs Next Generation Sequencing Services (NGSS). Our Genomics Pathogen Testing can identify any plant and human pathogens, and can even identify your cannabis microbiome, so you can judge the efficacy of your nutrient regiment.

Homogoneity Studies

Homogeneity measurement is most commonly the result from a series of cannabinoid tests performed to ensure that products have consistent amounts of active ingredients throughout a batch, across batches, or even within a single edible unit.

It is especially important for the safety of consumers of cannabis edibles that each portion has the same reliable dose of CBD or THC.  Our detailed operating procedures ensure that we take sufficient number of samples of a product in a batch to yield a significant measurement of the level of consistency in a product.

Some states require homogeneity testing, and others require that each portion of a batch matches label claims.  Whether required by state law or not, this is a critical test to ensure product consistency.

Heavy Metals

Heavy metals contamination in cannabis can be dangerous. And most often, metals come from contaminated soil, water, or vaporizor pens. If contaminated with heavy metals, these toxic elements will be passed into the plant and on to the consumer.

EVIO Labs screens samples for:

  • Lead (Pb)
  • Arsenic (As)
  • Cadmium (Cd)
  • Mercury (Hg)
Microbial Impurities

EVIO Labs uses the most advanced and scientifically sophisticated microbial contaminant testing methodologies in the industry, surpassing many state requirements.

Using rapid development plates, we determine the presence of:

  • Yeast
  • Mold
  • E. Coli
  • Salmonella
Moisture Content

Moisture content is a measure of the total amount of moisture in the material. Moisture content may be measured by using a moisture balance instrument, or through a drying method.  Both methods involve measuring the weight of water loss before and after drying of a sample.

Mycotoxins

We identify biological contamination, including Aflatoxin, one of the most dangerous mycotoxins that occur as a byproduct of fungal growth on hemp and cannabis. EVIO Labs uses the most advanced and scientifically sophisticated microbial contaminant testing methodologies in the industry, surpassing many state requirements.

EVIO Labs screens samples for:

  • Aflatoxin B1
  • Aflatoxin B2
  • Aflatoxin G1
  • Aflatoxin G2
  • Ochratoxin A
Pesticides

Pesticides commonly used in cannabis and hemp cultivation are potentially dangerous and pose health risks — the greatest danger occurring with chronic exposure to pesticide residue, which is toxic at high levels and harmful at lower doses.

Reassure your customers by testing your products for potentially harmful chemicals including insecticides, fungicides, plant growth regulators, and other compounds. Our scientifically validated and comprehensive testing methods rely on state of the art triple-quadripole mass spectrometry instruments to positively identified harmful contaminants.

EVIO Labs testing meets or exceeds requirements for all States within the U.S. for potentially harmful chemicals including:

  • Insecticides
  • Fungicides
  • Plant growth regulators

Residual Solvents

EVIO Labs tests all types of products for residual solvents. We verify that concentrate and oil products as well as edibles are free of solvents, processing chemicals, and some substances commonly found in pesticides. Solvents are used to extract cannabinoids from raw plant material. If not properly purged during the extraction process, high levels of solvents remaining in the product can cause irritation, dizziness, nausea, drowsiness, and even loss of consciousness.

EVIO Labs uses the latest technology and state-of-the-art instruments to deliver fast and accurate results that confirm your production processes are compliant. EVIO Labs uses headspace gas chromatography to quantify harmful solvents, impurities, or adulterants down to parts-per-million (PPM). Using our Gas Chromatographer with Flame Ionization Detector (GC-FID), means we provide the most comprehensive and accurate testing available anywhere.

EVIO Labs testing meets or exceeds State and Federal requirements for residual solvents with detection levels in parts-per-million (ppm). We screens for, but are not limited to, commonly used solvents such as:

  • Butanes
  • Propanes
  • Alcohols

Terpenes

Terpenes play a prominent role in the aroma, taste and effects of botanical products and plant-derived essential oils.

EVIO Labs reports up to 42 terpenes including commonly found terpenes such as:

  • Myrcene
  • Linalool
  • Pinene.

Vitamin E Acetate

DL-Alpha tocopheryl acetate, or Vitamin E Acetate, is the stable form of Vitamin E most often used in cosmetic formulations for its skin care benefits. While beneficial when used topically, it is not considered safe for inhalation.  Recent illness ("vape lung disease") have been associated with presence of Vitamin E Acetate in vape cartridges.  Our test will detect concentration of Vitamin E Acetate in cannabis products intended for inhalation.

Water Activity

Water activity is a measure of the amount of moisture that is present near the surface of a product. Commonly used in the produce industry, water activity must be below 0.65 for compliance tests for cannabis flower. Low water activity assures there will be less growth of microbes in the product. EVIO uses specialized water activity meters, either in the field or in the lab, to perform the test.
